More on the Bagua Areas

For the Chinese, the direction of SOUTH is the most auspicious. It is so important that it is always placed at the top of the map, much as the north is used for Westerners. In the Bagua, the south is always at the middle of the top section, or if you are imagining the grid of 9 squares, the middle square of the top row. This direction corresponds to the area of your life called FAME. It represents who you want to be known as and the accomplishments you wish to achieve. Its element is fire, its colour red, its number 9, its season is summer, and the associated animals are birds.

The SOUTHWEST corresponds to the RELATIONSHIP area of your life. It is the top right area of the Bagua or the right square in the top row of the grid. It has to do with love and marriage and/or your relationship with yourself. Its colour is pink and its number is 2.

The WEST corresponds to the CHILDREN and CREATIVITY areas of your life. It is located on the right side of the Bagua or the right square of the second row of the grid. It is associated with autumn and the element metal. This area deals with anything to do with children, such as fertility problems as well as creativity of new ideas, new projects etc. Its colour is white, its animal is the tiger and the number is 7.

The NORTHWEST corresponds to the area of HELPFUL PEOPLE and TRAVEL. Its location is the bottom right of the Bagua or the rightmost square of the bottom row of the grid of 9. It is associated with any travel as well as any people that come in to your life to aid, help or teach you. It also represents interests outside of the home. Its colour is gray and its number 6.

The NORTH is located at the bottom middle of the Bagua, or the middle square of the bottom row in the grid. It corresponds to the CAREER area of your life. It has to do with business success and what you do. Its element is water, which also symbolizes money in Feng Shui. It relates to winter, its animal is the tortoise, the colour is black and the number is 1.

The NORTHEAST corresponds to the KNOWLEDGE and SPIRITUALITY areas of your life. It is located on the bottom left of the Bagua or the left square of the bottom row in the grid. It has to do with any thing around learning or intelligence as well as spirituality and meditation. Its colour is turquoise and its number is 8.

The EAST is related to the HEALTH and FAMILY sections of your life. It relates to spring and the colour green. It has to do with descendants, family and close friends, as well as your health. Its element is wood, its animal is the dragon and its number is 3.

The SOUTHEAST corresponds the WEALTH area of your life. It is in the left top of the Bagua or the left square in the top row of the grid. It governs everything to do with wealth, which can be financial or wealth in other ways. Its colour is purple and its number is 4.

The center of the Bagua has slightly different meanings, depending on the school of Feng Shui you are looking at. Some believe that it represents all other areas not represented by the other 8. Some believe that it represents you and has more to do with your health than the east area.
