More On Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming is a fascinating concept. Imagine knowing you are dreaming while you are dreaming. When you reach a state of consciousness in your dreams you can then begin to control you dreams. Who wouldn't want to be able to go anywhere or do anything in their dreams? Well lucid dreamers can do just that.
Once you have honed your dream recall abilities (see our page on dream incubation) you can begin to work toward lucid dreaming. The key is to become aware that you are dreaming while it is happening. One way to start to train your mind to do this is to stop periodically during the day and ask yourself am I dreaming or am I awake? That question can eventually show up in your dreams and you may slip into lucidity when you do. Asking this question in your waking life will also alert your mind to distinguishing between normal everyday occurrences and those that could only happen in a dream. For example if you begin to fly in your dream you can then go on to realize that you can't fly in the waking world and that you must be dreaming and then become lucid or aware you are in a dream. Often this is just a matter of practice. The first few times you do manage to become lucid you might find that you get so excited at the prospect that you wake yourself up. This will subside with time and practice as well. For those that have mastered lucid dreaming sleep can take on a whole new meaning, bringing on experiences and adventures you could only dream!
