More On Reflexology
Records of reflexology can be found as far back as ancient Egyptian times and some 4000 years in Chinese history. It is again enjoying a resurgence in popularity as more and more in the medical profession and those who seek relief from chronic ailments untreatable by more conventional methods, discover its benefits.
It is based on the premise that the body can be divided into 10 energy zones that run from the soles of feet to the top of the head. These zones and the parts of the body contained in them are connected to various points on the foot via nerves. The aim of reflexology is to massage or manipulate these points and break down tension or stress, improving nerve function and blood supply to the corresponding areas.
Reflexology can correct factors involved in disease such as congestion, inflammation and tension and is beneficial for speeding up the elimination of toxins in the body and improving circulation.
Generally the right foot will correspond to the right side of the body while the left foot will to left side of body. The general technique for giving a reflexology massage is to face the sitting person and use the pad of your fingers and thumb, not the tip. It is not proper technique to use a circular or sliding motion, but rather a forward motion over the specific point.
